The Master of Nursing Study Program (MoNSP), Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) was officially established in 2011 based on the Rector’s Decree No. 449/P/SK/HT/2011. Up to now, the Master’s Program in Nursing has offered several specializations, including:
The Master of Nursing Study Program typically takes a minimum of 2 semesters and a maximum of 6 semesters to complete. Graduates of this program will be awarded the degree of Master of Nursing Science (MN.Sc).

The courses taught in the first semester of PSMK consist of General Compulsory Basic Courses, totaling 18 credits. Some of the courses in the first semester include:
A. General Compulsory Basic Course
The Philosophy of Science course is a mandatory course in the Master of Nursing Study Program intended to provide comprehensive knowledge and understanding to students to explore and analyze science philosophically. In this course, students are expected to be able to integrate understanding and analytical skills of science philosophically in evaluating professional nursing practice situations. Additionally, students are also expected to be able to relate philosophical science to nursing theories in a nursing service setting.
The Nursing in Science course discusses nursing theories, from the aspects of their historical development, application, to the process of review, critique, and research outcomes related to nursing theories.
The Qualitative Research course is a mandatory course in the Master of Nursing Program aimed at providing basic understanding of qualitative and mixed-method research to solve clinical problems and advance nursing science. The Qualitative Research course will cover concepts of qualitative research including various qualitative approaches, techniques, methods, and research analysis.
The Quantitative Research course is a mandatory course in the Master of Nursing Program aimed at providing basic understanding of quantitative research to conduct research to solve clinical problems and/or advance nursing science. The Quantitative Research course will cover in-depth and comprehensive stages of the quantitative research process. These stages include formulating research introduction and objectives, selecting research methods and designs, research frameworks, variables, population and sampling, hypotheses, development of research instruments, data collection and management. Research designs discussed include cross-sectional and case-control studies, cohort and randomized controlled trials. Topics such as data mining or data analysis to broaden research data analysis are also provided in this course for comprehensive understanding. By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to prepare a brief draft research proposal which will later be the final task in completing the master’s in nursing.
It is one of the compulsory general basic courses that must be taken by students in the first semester. This course covers statistical testing techniques required by students in conducting research (thesis).
Nursing as a profession must have clear legal foundations and protections. Nurses should be knowledgeable about various legal concepts related to nursing practice as they are accountable for the decisions and professional actions they take. The Legal Ethics in Nursing course provides understanding and application of ethical and legal aspects in nursing. The focus of this course is on ethical and legal concepts related to healthcare practice, especially nursing practice. It is expected that after learning this course, students will be able to make nursing decisions and actions consistently by applying professional standards, nursing ethics codes, legal principles, and be protected from nursing liabilities in managing nursing services and care.
The Advanced Nursing Information Systems course is a compulsory general basic course in the Master of Nursing Program that studies the basic concepts and some applications of nursing informatics. Nursing informatics is a combination of cognitive science, computer science, and information science. Students will learn about information system concepts in healthcare and how these systems can support and ensure the quality of nursing care services. Principles that must be known for healthcare services using health information systems to run effectively and efficiently. Students will also learn nursing informatics concepts to support the improvement of Health status in society and in nursing education. Additionally, students will learn the role of nursing leadership in health information systems.
The Leadership and Nursing Management course is a mandatory course in the Master of Nursing Program. This course uses a system framework and critical thinking strategies to study the role of professional nurses in healthcare systems. Management theories, leadership, and current changes are discussed in the context of nursing practice. The focus is on synthesizing knowledge to develop innovative and creative approaches to improve nursing practice.
The Leadership in Nursing and Interprofessional course is a mandatory course in the Master of Nursing Program. This course utilizes a systems framework and critical thinking strategies to study the role of professional nurses in healthcare delivery systems. Management theories, leadership, and contemporary changes are discussed within the context of nursing practice. The course focuses on synthesizing knowledge to develop innovative and creative approaches to enhance nursing practice.
The courses taught in the second semester of Master of Nursing Study Program consist of general compulsory basic courses and interest-specific courses, with a total of 14 credits. Some of the courses in the second semester include:
A. General Compulsory Basic Course
The Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing course is a mandatory subject, focusing on the ability to carry out steps in applying nursing EBP in clinical/community settings. It is expected that after learning this course, students will be able to make efforts to enhance the quality of information useful in decision-making. Students will be able to filter out excessive (unnecessary) information and apply the most useful (best) information to manage nursing services and care.
B. Interest-specific Course
Mata kuliah yang diajarkan pada semester ketiga PSMK berisi mata kuliah elektif (MKE). Mahasiswa PSMK FK-KMK UGM dapat memilih salah satu MKE (2 SKS) yang tersedia. MKE akan diselenggarakan jika peminat MKE terdapat minimal 6 mahasiswa. Adapun mata kuliah semester kedua, antara lain:
A. Mata Kuliah Elektif (MKE)
Dalam English in Nursing ini mahasiswa diharapkan mampu untuk memiliki kemampuan dan kepercayaan diri dalam mengkomunikasikan inovasi pada bidang ilmu dan teknologi keperawatan dan kesehatan. Mahasiswa juga diharapkan mampu melaksanakan pendidikan kesehatan dengan menggunakan Bahasa Inggris. Dalam English in Nursing ini menggunakan berbagai metode pembelajaran. Selain ceramah, berbagai metode dengan student centered learning juga dilaksanakan, yaitu: small group discussion dan project-based learning.
Mata kuliah sains dalam keperawatan ini membahas tentang teori-teori keperawatan, dari aspek sejarah perkembangannya, penerapannya, sampai pada proses review, kritik, dan hasil penelitian terkait teori keperawatan
Mata kuliah riset kualitatif merupakan mata kuliah wajib pada program Studi Magister Keperawatan yang dimaksudkan untuk memberikan pemahaman dasar tentang penelitian kualitatif dan mixed method untuk menyelesaikan masalah klinis dan pengembangan ilmu keperawatan. Mata Kuliah Riset Kualitatif akan membahas mengenai konsep tentang penelitian Kualitatif yang meliputi berbagai pendekatan kualitatif, tehnik, metode dan analisis penelitian.
Mata ajar riset kuantitatif merupakan mata kuliah wajib pada program Studi Magister Keperawatan yang dimaksudkan untuk memberikan pemahaman dasar tentang penelitian kuantitatif sehingga mampu melakukan penelitian untuk menyelesaikan masalah klinis dan atau pengembangan ilmu keperawatan. Mata ajar penelitian kuantitatif akan membahas mengenai tahapan-tahapan proses penelitian kuantitatif secara mendalam dan komprehensif. Tahapan-tahapan dalam proses penelitian tersebut meliputi, penyusunan pendahuluan dan tujuan penelitian, pemilihan metode dan rancangan penelitian, kerangka kerja penelitian, variabel, populasi dan sampling, hipotesis, penyusunan instrumen penelitian, pengumpulan data dan manajemennya. Rancangan penelitain yang dibahas meliputi penelitian cross sectional dan case control, kohor dan randomized controlled trial. Topik mengenai data mining atau penggalian data khususnya mengembangkan analisa agar lebih luas terhadap data penelitian juga diberikan pada mata ajar ini agar lebih komprehensif.
Pada akhir pemrblajaran mahasiswa diharapkan mampu menyusun draft singkat proposal penelitian yang nantinya akan dijadikan tugas akhir menyelesaikan magister keperawatan
<p style=”text-align:justify”>Mata kuliah <strong>biostatistik</strong> merupakan salah satu mata kuliah dasar umum yang wajib diikuti mahasiswa di semester pertama. Mata kuliah ini mempelajari tentang teknik uji statistik yang dibutuhkan mahasiswa dalam melakukan penelitian (thesis).</p>
Keperawatan sebagai suatu profesi harus memiliki suatu landasan dan perlindungan hukum yang jelas. Perawat seharusnya mengetahui berbagai konsep hukum yang berkaitan dengan praktik keperawatan karena mereka mempunyai akuntabilitas terhadap keputusan dan tindakan profesional yang mereka lakukan. Mata kuliah etik legal dalam keperawatan ini memberikan pemahaman dan aplikasi aspek-aspek etika dan hukum dalam keperawatan. Fokus mata kuliah ini adalah pada konsep-konsep etika dan hukum terkait dengan praktik profesi kesehatan, khusunya praktek profesi keperawatan.
Diharapkan setelah pembelajaran mata kuliah ini mahasiswa mampu melakukan suatu keputusan dan tindakan keperawatan secara konsisten dengan menerapkan standar profesi, kode etik keperawatan, prinsip-prinsip hukum dan terlindungi dari liabilitas keperawatan dalam mengelola pelayanan dan asuhan keperawatan.
Mata kuliah sistem informasi keperawatan lanjut merupakan mata kuliah wajib dasar umum Program Studi Magister Keperawayan yang mempelajari konsep dasar dan beberapa aplikasi dari nursing informatics. Nursing informatics merupakan kombinasi antara cognitive science, computer science, information science. Mahasiswa akan mempelajari konsep sistem informasi dalam pelayanan kesehatan dan bagaimana sistem informasi tersbut dapat menunjang serta menjamin kualitas pelayanan keperawatan. Prinsip-prinsip yang harus diketahui agar pelayanan kesehatan dengan menggunakan sistem informasi kesehatan dapat berjalan efektif dan efisien. Mahasiswa juga akan mempelajari konsep nursing informatics untuk menunjang peningkatan status Kesehatan di masyarakat serta di dunia pendidikan keperawatan. Selain itu mahasiswa juga akan mempelajari peran kepemimpinan keperawatan dalam sistem informasi kesehatan.
Mata kuliah kepemimpinan dan manajemen keperawatan adalah mata kuliah wajib pada program studi magister keperawatan. Mata kuliah ini menggunakan kerangka sistem dan strategi berpikir kritis untuk mempelajari peran perawat professional dalam sistem pelayanan kesehatan. Teori manajemen, kepemimpinan, dan perubahan terkini dibahas dalam konteks praktik keperawatan. Berfokus kepada sintesis pengetahuan untuk mengembangkan pendekatan yang inovatif dan kreatif untuk meningkatkan praktik keperawatan.
Mata kuliah kepemimpinan dan manajemen keperawatan adalah mata kuliah wajib pada program studi magister keperawatan. Mata kuliah ini menggunakan kerangka sistem dan strategi berpikir kritis untuk mempelajari peran perawat professional dalam sistem pelayanan kesehatan. Teori manajemen, kepemimpinan, dan perubahan terkini dibahas dalam konteks praktik keperawatan. Berfokus kepada sintesis pengetahuan untuk mengembangkan pendekatan yang inovatif dan kreatif untuk meningkatkan praktik keperawatan.
Thesis (8 sks)
Mahasiswa akan merancang penelitian, pengambilan data, analisis data, dan mengikuti ujian tesis. Serangkaian ujian tesis terdiri dari ujian proposal, ujian terbuka, dan ujian tertutup.
Mahasiswa program studi magister keperawatan menempuh studi di lingkungan Fakultas Kedokteran, Kesehatan Masyarakat, dan Keperawatan UGM yang berlokasi di sebelah barat dari gedung pusat universitas. FK-KMK UGM menyediakan lingkungan belajar yang nyaman dan kondusif. Mahasiswa UGM dapat mengakses perpustakaan universitas dan fakultas, jurnal online, databases, dan sumber belajar lainnya menggunakan Single-Sign On (SSO).
