Accreditation
Currently, Master of Nursing has been accredited by Independent Accreditation Board-Higher Education for Health in Indonesia. It is awarded A rank (excellence) based on Decree Letter: 0236/LAM-PTKes/Akr/Mag/V/2019.

Learning Outcomes
Based on Regulation of Ministry of Research and Higher Education of Republic of Indonesia No. 44 year 2015 about National Standard of Higher Education, Master of Nursing graduates are equivalent as level 8 (eight) of Kerangka Kualifikasi Nasional Indonesia/Indonesian National Qualification Framework. Master of Nursing FK-KMK UGM adheres to the CARE philosophy, which is the belief and basis for carrying out all academic community activities in program in nursing. CARE stands for Competence, Altruism, Respect, and Empathy. In nursing, as its original meaning, CARE means that all members of the departments are people who have care and empathy for others, prioritize the interests of others, and programs as well as the interests of the nation and state, can respect others, and can work professionally.
In daily activities, CARE is the soul of activities that take place in the study program. The activities of the Three Pillars of higher education are aimed at sharpening students and the academic community to have concern and empathy for patients and clients, respect for patients, clients, and all health teams or people who interact with them, and in taking action, always prioritize the interests of patients, society, nation and state.

Course enrollment
Course enrollment should be performed by every registered student before teaching and learning activities during enrollment period. Enrollment is begun by submit study plan into UGM internal dashboard (Simaster). Study plan consists of course name and credits for the upcoming semester. Proposed study plan must be approved by Academic Supervisor (https://simaster.ugm.ac.id/akademik/dsn_approve_krs/view_mhs_dpa) and Director of Master Program in Nursing. UGM students have access to Course Handbook which provides comprehensive advice and information about the whole program. Student are assigned an academic supervisor to guide them through their studies and two research supervisors to guide them completing final thesis. Students are encouraged to engage as much as possible with all faculty member and to get involved in other events such as summer/winter course, conference, workshops, seminars, competition, etc.

Student Appeal
Students have rights to request appeal for academic decision and recommendation made by Assessor Board and Program Board which affect their academic progress. The procedure declares granted appeals and mechanisms as well as appeals which is not allowed. Complete procedure can be accessed here.

- Completion of final thesis defense
- Submission of final thesis report to Director of Master Program in Nursing
- Submission of publication manuscript to national/international journal (at least one article corresponds to thesis-related topic).
Curriculum
Students must complete the program at least 2 semesters and maximum 6 semesters with at least completing 44 total credits. The duration of study is counted since students are officially registered until be rewarded in graduation board meeting (Yudisium). The Master of Nursing consists of:

1. Core Courses
This course provides comprehensive knowledge and understandings to explore and analyze nursing theories. It is expected that students are able to design the implementation on nursing theory or model in nursing practice setting.
This course is designed to provide understandings and basic skill about biostatistics which become one of core competencies should be owned by Master of Nursing. Student will learn about the development and application of statistics methodology in analyzing and solving health issues and research.
This course provides an enhanced understanding and application aspects of ethical and legal issues in nursing. It focuses on the concepts of ethics and legal issues relevant to the practice of health professions, especially nursing practice.
This course offers the concept of Inter-professional education (IPE) as well as the health professional roles in Inter-professional Collaboration Practice (IPCP) in promoting effective and comprehensive healthcare service. It also promotes evidence-based practice in IPE and IPCP context.
This course focusses the understanding of the theories and concepts of management and leadership as well as knowledge and leadership skills are required by a nurse in managing nursing services. The special feature of this course is the principles of efficiency and effectiveness in leadership including human resource management towards innovation and future orientation and skills to perform lobbying, negotiation, and presentation. This course also discusses the importance of leadership role development at the national, regional, and global levels.
This course provides an understanding and application of student centered-learning (SCL) in nursing. It focuses on the basic theories of education in nursing and nursing education process. It is expected that students are able to implement SCL in nursing education.
This course provides basic concept of quantitative research in solving clinical issues and nursing development comprehensively. It is comprised of background, research objective, methodological preferences, research design & framework, variable, population, sampling, hypothesis, research instrument, data collection, mining, and management. Also, it discusses cross sectional research, case control, cohort, and randomized control trial.
This course provides basic concept of qualitative and mixed method researches in solving clinical and nursing development comprehensively. It will discuss various qualitative approach, methodology, and analysis.

This course explores the steps of evidence-based practice implementation in clinical and community settings. It is expected that students are able to select important findings and apply it into nursing care management.

- Fundamental of Medical Surgical Nursing (2 credits)
This course offers basic concept of medical and surgical cases intervention related to promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative measures based on evidence.
- Patient Safety in Medical Surgical Nursing (2 credits)
This course provides patient safety in medical and surgical nursing cases. It is expected that students are able to apply patient safety principles in providing medical and surgical nursing care plan.
- Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing I (2 credits)
This course is design to provide holistic care in medical and surgical nursing comprehensively as foundation of safe and effective nursing care plan for adult and family. It will focus on theory of nursing in patient with acute illness, injury, and disease deterioration.
- Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing II (2 credits)
This course explores the evidence integration and application of nursing concept for patient with chronic diseases.
- Concept of Advanced Pediatric Nursing in Family context (2 credits)
This course offers basic concepts of pediatric nursing in a family context holistically as the essential aspect in providing safe and effective nursing care for children and their family. It focuses on trends and issues in pediatric nursing, growth and development stages, and atraumatic approach for healthy and sick children in the setting of home, community, hospital, and other healthcare services.
- Advanced Pediatric Nursing Assessment (2 credits)
This course explores assessment of healthy and sick children (from newborn to adolescent). The assessment consists of history taking, developmental assessment, physical assessment, nutritional status assessment, family assessment and system assessment based on evidence.
- Advanced Pediatric Nursing I (2 credits)
This course is designed to provide understanding on pediatric nursing care using family-centered approach as well as safe and effective nursing care which suitable to growth and development stages. It focuses on theoretical concepts of health promotion approach including health perception and maintenance, nutrition, breastfeeding, activity and rest, elimination, roles and relationship, coping mechanisms, cognitive and perception, self-concepts, sexuality, and values according to growth and developmental stages at home, community, hospital, and other healthcare services.
- Application of Nursing Theory and SNL approach in Pediatric Nursing (2 credits)
This course provides theoretical and nursing models in formulating nursing care plan using Standardized Nursing Language (NANDA, NOC, NIC) and its application. It also explores the concepts of establishing priorities of nursing diagnosis, nursing intervention, and nursing outcomes in clinical and community health setting. This course focuses on theory of comfort, Orem’s self-care/dependent care deficit, theory of maternal role attainment-becoming a mother, health promotion model and adaptation model.
- Application of Nursing Theory and NANDA, NOC, NIC in Maternity Nursing (2 credits)
This course is designed to provide understanding of theory of nursing and NANDA NIC NOC approach as well as its implementation into maternity nursing care plan.
- Women’s Health Promotion (2 credits)
This course focusses on the women’s roles and status in Indonesian and globally. It offers measures on health promotion with primary-secondary-tertiary prevention towards reproductive health issues and diseases. It also discusses quality of life improvement in all stages of women as individual, group, and family in the community. In addition, involving men’s participation into women’s health promotion will be taught in this course.
- Maternal and Neonatal Health in Family Context (2 credits)
This course is designed to provide understanding on holistic nursing care for pregnant women, women in labor and postpartum, and their infants. It will focus on theory of nursing and principles in managing bio-psycho-socio-cultural needs including in normal condition or in condition when risks/complications occur.
- Transcultural Nursing in Maternity Nursing (2 credits)
This course provides the application of maternity nursing considering cultural aspects of patients. It focuses on the similarities and differences of cultures, human values, beliefs, and its application in the maternity context.
- Fundamental of Emergency Nursing (2 credits)
This course provides the fundamental of emergency nursing and its basic principles. It discusses assessment skills (ABCDE and Initial Assessment); diagnostic tests; emergency medical system; implementation of professional, ethical, and legal practice; safe environment for patients, family, and staffs. It also offers emergency management in daily life, mass casualty, and disaster (triage). In addition, students will learn about professionalism, leadership, systematic review, patient safety, risk and nosocomial infection and health promotion in this course.
- Advanced Emergency Nursing I (2 credits)
This course offers advanced emergency nursing as reference in solving clinical and nursing issues. It discusses diagnostic tests, nursing care process, communication and transportation in the emergency management system, trends and issues in emergency nursing and shock management.
- Advanced Emergency Nursing II (2 credits)
This course provides advanced emergency nursing as reference in solving clinical and nursing issues. It focuses on basic and advanced life support, emergency system, symptoms management in emergency context, and implementation of guideline and literature review in emergency setting.
- Disaster Nursing I (2 credits)
This course explores disaster nursing and quantitative studies to solve clinical issues and nursing science development. It discusses the concepts of disaster, disaster management, community disaster preparedness, hospital preparedness, local wisdom in disaster management, ethics and legal in disaster management, incident command system (ICS), data and information management, coordination and collaboration in disaster.
- Fundamental of Psychiatric Nursing and Complementary (2 credits)
This course provides the basic concepts of mental health nursing including connection between nursing theory and practice, human science basis of psychiatric nursing including: theory and practice, the use of theories in psychiatric nursing, history and trends in psychiatric mental health nursing, nurses’ competencies in mental health, ethics and legal issues in mental health, nursing process, and evidence-based in mental health and psychiatric nursing.
- Psychiatric Nursing in Special Population (2 credits)
This course explores nursing care process for psychiatric nursing among special populations of children, adults, up to elderly in the perspective of medical, nursing, and psychological aspects. It discusses homeless person with chronic mental health issues, persecuted people, person with life-threatening illness, person living with HIV/AIDS, sexuality disorder, rape victims, prisoners, domestic violence victims, human trafficking, and drug misuse.
- Basic Course – Community Mental Health Nursing (2 credits)
This course is designed to provide understanding of community mental health for individual, family, and community by empowering their resources. It consists of basic course-community mental health nursing including concept of CMHN, communication skill in mental health nursing, community management, disaster, and crisis intervention, mental health in children and teenagers, low self-esteem nursing care, social isolation, risk for violence, risk for suicide, people with dementia and depression, reporting, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Emergencies in Psychiatric Nursing (2 credits)
This course is designed to explore emergency cases in psychiatric setting. It will provide primary understanding about nursing care process for patient with psychiatric emergency, for example, nursing care for patient with delirium, drug addiction, risk for suicide, violence, and panic attack. In addition, students will learn ethics and legal aspect, assessment, and general approach of psychiatric emergency management.
3. Elective Courses
This course provides patient safety principles in medical and surgical nursing cases. It is expected that students are able to apply patient safety principles in providing medical and surgical nursing care plan.
This course discusses quality assurance in healthcare service, education, and community service to implement patient safety principles in healthcare. It is expected that students are able to apply the concepts of quality assurance in all settings and intervention as well as patient safety consideration.
This course is designed to provide fundamental of maternal and child health innovations in improving quality of life, health and wellness of mothers and their children based on personal characteristics and healthcare system development. It focuses on actual issues and innovations implementation in clinical and community settings, for instance, application in the clinical practice towards children with special needs and postpartum mothers as well as government roles and technology utilization.
This course offers scientific writing and publication techniques based on suitable guidelines.
This course focusses on integration and application of nursing concepts for patient with terminal illness and/or incurable diseases by implementing evidence-based practice. Student will learn about palliative care concept for patient to improve patient quality of life and their family as well as end of life care for dying patients.
This course offers the aspects of wound and ostomy care including basic physiology of wound healing, wound management and evidence-based practice, and clinical experience in wound and ostomy care. It is expected students are able to integrate theory and practice using patient-centered care approach.
This course provides disaster nursing, roles, and responsibilities of nurses in every disaster management phase.
This course offers fundamental of Japanese language, literature, and Japanese in daily life. It also introduces Hiragana letter, Katakana letter, Kanji letter, and able to introduce themselves.
This course provides basic concepts, specification and design of emergency department, patient flow, patient safety, waste management, care delivery system, information and technology, leadership, development of supporting staffs, resources, workload, enhancing handover from emergency department to the wards, ethics, evidence-based practice, knowledge translation, and evidence-based practice in emergency department.
This course aims to provide understanding on teamwork in disaster using STEPPS program developed by USA. It is comprised of Team STEPPS, disaster team, coordination team, contingency team, effective teamwork, communication method, regional teamwork in disaster, and team building exercise.
This course offers combination between cognitive science, computer science, and information science. Students will learn the concept of information system in healthcare and how it supports and ensure quality of nursing care. Also, they will learn the principles of effective and efficient health information system as well as nursing leadership in health information system.
This course is designed to prepare and perform effective oral presentation by emphasizing informative and persuasive public speaking. It introduces students on the essential elements of successful presentation including effective listening, presentation organization, logical structure, visualization, research and evidence, ethical consideration, and method to build confidence in public speaking.
This course is designed to enhance knowledge and skills in initiating and designing own business. It facilitated students to obtain leading mindset of entrepreneurship in health and non-health sectors.

- Contemporary Medical Surgical Nursing (2 credits)
This course offers issues and trends in the field of medical and surgical nursing. The goals of Medical Surgical Nursing practice are assisting patient and family to promote and maintain optimum health status.
- Application of Nursing Theory and SNL approach in Medical Surgical Nursing (2 credits)
This course applies theory of nursing in nursing care process including assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation using Standardized Nursing Language (NANDA, NIC, and NOC) for medical surgical nursing area.
- Advanced Medical Surgical Nursing III (2 credits)
This course focuses on integration and application of nursing concepts for patient with terminal illness and/or incurable diseases by implementing evidence-based practice. Student will learn about palliative care concept for patient to improve patient quality of life and their family as well as end of life care and bereavement family care for patient in dying stage.
- Advanced Pediatric Nursing in Family context II (2 credits)
This course is designed to understand pediatric nursing care comprehensively using acute and chronic disease management approach in the family-centered care context. It focuses on disease management for infection, immune system disorders, respiratory disfunction, gastrointestinal, hematology, cardiovascular, genitourinary, musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, neurology and cognitive, endocrine, cancer, injury, poisoning, genetics, and children who require intensive treatment. It also covers nursing care and health education and prevention strategy based on growth and development stages at home, community, hospital, and other healthcare facilities.
- Contemporary Pediatric Nursing (2 credits)
This course is designed to explore actual trends and issues in pediatric nursing.
- Management of sick children care service (2 credits)
This course provides management of sick children care at hospital using child health management system in hospital setting. It also considers guideline of national hospital accreditation and international accreditation on its quality assurance system.
- Advanced Maternity Nursing I (2 credits)
This course applies nursing theories and standardized nursing language in maternity nursing care and women’s health service. It focuses on implementation of new strategies in providing nursing care for client related to reproductive health, labor, postpartum, and baby until 40 days as well as women with sexuality disorders.

This course is designed to understand actual issues and trends in maternity nursing.
- Disaster Nursing II (2 credits)
This course provides disaster management for vulnerable group (children, elderly, pregnant women, patients with chronic diseases, people with special needs, and foreigners), community empowerment, natural-biohazard-chemical-radiology hazards disaster management, decontamination and isolation, shelter management, logistic management, as well as disaster training and simulation.
- Application of Nursing Theory in Emergency Nursing (2 credits)
This course provides innovation experiences and clinical skills for emergency and disaster nursing. It discusses rapid medical response team, resuscitation in emergency, and application of disaster mitigation in Regional Agency for Disaster Management.
- Advanced Emergency Nursing III (2 credits)
This course offers advanced emergency nursing in various settings and across all ages. It consists of early warning score system, diagnostic tests (radiology and USG), advanced Cardiac Life Support algorithm, management of cardiology emergencies, endocrine emergencies, nephrology emergencies, psychiatric emergencies, pediatric emergencies, neonatal emergencies, eye trauma, poisoning, snake bite, as well as clinical reasoning (stroke).
- Intermediate and Advance Course-Community Mental Health Nursing I (2 credits)
This course offers the understanding of community mental health for individual, family, and community by empowering their capabilities. Intermediate course will explore nursing care for psychosocial development, psychosocial disorders (body image impaired, grieving, and anxiety in dying process), mental health education, and mental health nursing. Advanced course provides partnership, mental health for non-medical, modality therapy for mental health disorder and rehabilitation.
- Psychiatric Nursing in Disaster (2 credits)
This course explores emergency cases in the psychiatric area. It will provide the understanding and essential skills related to disaster and its characteristics, human response towards disaster, psycho-pathology post disaster, disaster planning, preparedness and response, disaster mental healthcare team response, early intervention and mental health activities. In addition, students will learn First Aid for Psychology, nursing care for terrorism and mass riots, as well as, self-care and self-release in disaster situation.
- Complementary Psychiatric Nursing (2 credits)
This course unravels about complementary therapy for psychiatric nursing field including, basic understanding, its application, and dissemination in the national seminar.
Joint Degree
Master of Nursing (MoN) program has conducted Joint Degree program since 2018. The first joint degree program was carried out in collaboration with University of Tasmania (UTAS), Australia using scholarship scheme by Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education/Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP) under Tripartite Agreement UGM-UTAS-LPDP.
Starting from year of 2020, MoN UGM has collaborated with Taipei Medical University (TMU), Taiwan to establish Joint Degree program. It is expected that 5 students from each institution undergoing study in both UGM, Indonesia and TMU, Taiwan. UGM students under this program will join the teaching and learning activities in Indonesia for first and fourth semesters, then second and third semesters in Taipei, vice versa. Curriculum matching process had been concocted to ensure the learning outcomes of both institutions. The graduates will be awarded Magister Keperawatan (M.Kep.) and Master of Science in Nursing (M.Sc.).
